Gigantic volte-face by SOCA
The UK’s police group SOCA has trumpeted its success in shutting down thirty-six web sites dealing in the hacking and exploiting of credit card details.
Here is Lee Miles, Head of Cyber Operations for Soca speaking: "This operation is an excellent example of the level of international co-operation being focused on tackling online fraud. Our activities have saved business, online retailers and financial institutions potential fraud losses estimated at more than half a billion pounds and protected thousands of individuals from the distress caused by being a victim of fraud.”
Thousands of British citizens must be reeling at the insult to their intelligence. Before SOCA and its affiliated agencies dropped Operation Ore when the new evidence was secured, they had ruined the lives of thousands by claiming that credit card fraud - specifically in the form of identity theft - could not happen on computers. Now they are talking credit for identifying a crime that they had claimed did not exist.
The Sky News report even mentions their partners in the Ore travesty. “The AVC transactions in the UK were tracked and monitored by a specialist team of SOCA officers. The move was a joint operation between SOCA, the FBI and the US Department of Justice which targets organised cybercrime.”
And if not yet astonished by SOCA’s audacity, what about this statement: “In the past two years, SOCA officers have seized 2.5 million items of stolen personal data in joint operations with other international cybercrime agencies. The total amount of data seized in these operations is estimated to have been worth £500 million to cybercriminals.” But when the Ore action group tried to give them the names and addresses of the cyber criminals who had stolen the identities of the Orees they did not want to hear about them, because they had already ruined them.
What appears to be the very first comment on the Sky News story is the following.

“How come this was not highlighted in Operation Ore which destroyed so many people and lives? SOCA claimed that credit card fraud was 'impossible'.”
Totallyconfused had her life and family virtually destroyed by Operation Ore in which at first she was simply a victim of collateral damage. However she had the gall to fight back and has suffered terrible consequences.

And another volte-face
On 27 April 2012, at Lewes Crown Court, Mr Justice Saunders said that Ms Moran, 56, would not have to appear in court, after psychiatrist Philip Joseph said she was not fit to stand trial. Dr Joseph said the ex-Labour MP was suffering from a depressive illness and had extreme anxiety and agitation. Dr Joseph told Lewes Crown Court that the stress of the proceedings and allegations she was facing made it impossible for her to participate in court proceedings. He said she had tried to harm herself and there was a risk of suicide. He added that she felt feelings of abandonment by the Labour Party and shame that her career was over. Ms Moran did not attend the hearing at Lewes Crown Court.
Last year, Ms Moran, of Ivy Road, St Denys, Southampton, Hampshire, was described as weeping inconsolably when she appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 15 charges of false accounting and six of using a false instrument relating to expense claims totalling about £80,000.
It is alleged that Ms Moran, who stood down at the last election, ‘flipped’ her designated second home, making claims for properties in London, Luton and Southampton.
Ms Moran was Margaret Moran (MP) in parliament 26/10/2005. This is what she said:
“Operation Ore, the massive police investigation into child internet pornography, identified over 7,000 people in the UK, including judges, doctors and teachers, who used their credit cards to download images of children being abused or even killed for their gratification. Police believe that that is the tip of the iceberg. Those who download such images say that they have committed no crime, but every single vile picture that includes babies and children being raped and tortured has destroyed an innocent life. Through the internet, criminal gangs are making money out of this misery. That has gone unchallenged for too long and the time has come to right this wrong.”
This false testimony was the subject of formal complaints to the Committee on Standards in Public Life and the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner at the House of Parliament, neither of whom would investigate this MP's conduct. Her grandstanding and abuse of the facts contributed to over 40 suicides and the ruin of thousands of lives of UK citizens none of whom were afforded the compassion of being too depressed or at risk of suicide to stand trial.
