An extraordinary story waiting for a courageous journalist
Thomas Reedy, who has served 10 of his 180 year ‘life’ sentence in an Illinois prison, is working on a Motion based on the inadequate defence and due process made available to him at the time of his original arrest and trial. His original sentence was for over 1300 years and it earned him the prison title of ‘The thousand year man’. As the alleged publisher of child pornography in the infamous 1999 Texan Landslide case, grandstanding by the prosecutor and the US Attorney General assured that he received the national and worldwide notoriety which resulted in years of isolation to reduce attacks on him inside prison.
The courageous journalist or documentary-maker prepared to take on this story can, should he wish, avoid challenging the dominant narrative that to be accused of sex abuse is to be guilty, and even ignore the denial of due process and means of defence suffered by Reedy during his trial, and simply concentrate on the extraordinary events which have allowed one incarcerated individual, with assistance from just one US friend on the outside, to make contact with two researchers, one in the UK and one in Ireland, who after ten years have uncovered the evidence he requires for his Motion. The resulting joint activity, although not without its difficulties, has been made possible by a revolutionary new US prison email system which has allowed these four individuals to communicate, discuss and make plans.
