Portugal's Operation Lista Enfant falls apart

What follows is based on information received and we would be grateful if it can be verified, corrected or expanded upon.

In 2000, Landslide’s owner Thomas Reedy received a more than 1300 year prison sentence, later reduced on appeal to 180 years. Shortly after his conviction, the US authorities passed the Landslide subscriber database, containing a list of 250,000 alleged credit card subscribers, to the police forces of 60 countries, mainly through Interpol, but also dealt directly with some countries such as the UK and Canada. In creating the context in which this list was thus forwarded, the US authorities committed gross libel against all those on the list.

The FBI sent a list of about 200 names found in the Landslide subscriber database to the Portuguese police (Polícia Judiciária, or PJ). Based on that information, the PJ started Operation Enfant, but apparently no arrests were made, which may have been because laws forbidding possession of child porn in Portugal were not fully developed at the time. The names on the list, however, were kept on file by the Portuguese police for later use, if necessary.

A dramatic feature of the Landslide subscriber database is that it contains some very high profile names. The response of the police to these has been interesting. They did not go after some of the most powerful and wealthy, presumably for reasons of their own, but went after others such as music and television celebrities in the UK, ruining them.

At the time of Operation Enfant in Portugal, someone leaked the information that well-known TV presenter, Carlos Cruz, was on the Landslide list. The list also became known as Lista Enfant, further damning anyone associated with it. A number of prominent politicians were also rumoured to be on this ‘child porn seekers’ list.

Although no arrests were carried out under Operation Enfant, in 2003 the Portuguese police used the leaked information about Carlos Cruz to accuse him of belonging to an imaginary paedophile ring connected to the infamous Casa Pia network of children's homes, one of the many children’s care home scares. He was put on trial with five other defendants and found guilty in 2010, although there was no material evidence whatsoever against him. The judges based their verdict on what they called ‘resonance’ – that is, the alleged victims, some of whom were male prostitutes and drug addicts, were considered as credible because the court decided they were, by capturing a positive ‘resonance’ from their court statements. There is a summary of the Casa Pia case at www.richardwebster.net/casa-pia-carlos-cruz-reporterX.html.

Those readers in Portugal who want to help Carlos Cruz may be interested in hearing that we have now looked up the Landslide subscriber database, which we have had in our possession since obtaining it for our court actions. We have a surprise for all those in Portugal including the police who used the defamatory labelling of being a Landslide paedophile subscriber for whatever reason to try to destroy this man.

We hoped to find that he was one more victim of credit card fraud and we understand that he had vehemently denied being a subscriber to illegal imagery on Landslide or anywhere else. We now hope that the Portuguese police in particular will find this information of interest.

We can no find no trace of his name having ever been on the Landslide subscriber database.

So why was it put about in Portugal and used to convict him in court on other matters that he was?

We have now received copies of printed media clearly saying that Carlos Cruz and certain politicians were on the Landslide subscriber database and were targets of Operation Lista Enfant.

The report mentions that one of the web sites being accessed was ‘childrape’. We have established that this web site was run by a criminal webmaster who himself posted stolen credit cards to his own site to make money through Landslide. We will now try to contact the accused politicians also to check if they too were victims of fraud or simply falsely accused.

We have also established that at least 30% of the transactions on the Lista Enfant database were as a result of credit card fraud so many other innocent individuals may have been compromised and become the victims of police intimidation or even being set up because of this. We are prepared to make this information available to any individuals who wish to clear their names. We would also like to publish the names of the police officers involved.

Latest

Given the number of times that both ‘Carlos’ and ‘Cruz’ come up on the list as first and last names, although always associated with other names, it seems a miracle (and perhaps it is) that there appears to be no ‘Carlos Cruz’ on the list.

Even if it had been there, however, associated with him or some other person of the same name, the chances of it being evidently fraudulent were also high, as a quick look at the web sites associated with the transactions reveals that many were owned by criminal webmasters who were making money through Landslide by accessing their own sites using stolen credit cards.
