United Kingdom
The UK has had a long history of witch hunt and injustice in sex abuse cases, going back to the infamous Orkney and other Satanic ritual abuse debacles. The big current sex abuse subject is child porn, and the legislation is highly repressive as it criminalizes any act of 'making' child porn which includes innocent or accidental possession. As in Ireland, Canada and Australia, the police have embraced it and its accompanying expansion of their powers to criminalize and prosecute.
From April 2004 the legislation is even more repressive and creates huge new categories of child porn, which will criminalize many children. See Child pornography.
We have a long article examining the UK situation and the activities of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) under the Child pornography section in menu on left.
There is an excellent UK web site, the only one on the subject - which critically examines the various UK laws relating to child pornography, and exposes contradictions, anomalies and threats to liberty.
There is also an excellent UK web site dealing with censorship called Spiked.
Another organization in the UK is the British False Memory Society (BFMS). They have much valuable information which helps to debunk this increasingly discredited doctrine.
There is a false allegations support organization, called FASO, dedicated to supporting anyone affected by a false allegation of abuse. It has a National Help Line 0870 241 6650, open Monday to Friday, 6pm to midnight (Wednesdays 9am to midnight). One can write to FASO, PO Box 4, Crosskeys,Newport, UK. NP11 7YA. Its web site is at False Allegations UK. Email: False Allegations.
The group FACT was formed as a result of the large-scale police investigations into alleged abuse in former care homes. It believes that the special police operation, known as ‘trawling’, has led to the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history. This belief was given substantial support by the Home Affairs Select Committee Report 2002, which concluded that a new genre of miscarriage of justice had arisen as a result of the over-enthusiastic pursuit of abuse allegations in children's homes. It is now cooperating with LOVE in Ireland to fight false allegations.
